Henan University School of Fine Arts is located in Kaifeng City, Henan University Minglun Campus, has a profound school-running background, the famous artist Mr. Tao Coldyue from September 1929 to February 1930 has taught at Henan University (then known as Sun Yat-sen University in Henan), the first of Henan higher art education. The college's professional teaching began in 1949, the Kaifeng Art School, in 1953 into the Kaifeng Higher Normal College to establish the Department of Sports Arts, in 1956, the Department of Sports Arts moved to Zhengzhou, on the basis of music, art majors, the establishment of Zhengzhou Art College, in 1958 changed its name to Henan Art Institute, In 1959, it was renamed Zhengzhou College of Art, covering music, fine arts two university subjects, is an undergraduate establishment. In 1962, Henan University was adjusted, and the College of Art was incorporated into Henan University (then known as Kaifeng Normal College) to set up an art department, under the art major, music major. In 1980, the establishment of arts and crafts teaching and research room, began to recruit arts and crafts direction undergraduate students.

In 1985, the school made institutional adjustments to the Art Department, which was divided into the Music Department and the Fine Arts Department. In 1988, the school established the Department of Arts, Crafts and Construction Engineering in accordance with the needs of national economic construction. In 1994, the construction project department was divided out, the establishment of the Department of Arts and Crafts. In 1996, the Henan Provincial Party Committee and the provincial government decided to re-establish the Henan Academy of Art on the basis of the art discipline of Henan University, which is under the management of Henan University. In 1998, the school established the Henan University College of Art, which was formed by the merger and formation of four departments of art majors, including the Department of Fine Arts and the Department of Arts and Crafts. In 2012, the school carried out an institutional reorganization of the Academy of Arts, under which five teaching, scientific research institutions and a public teaching institution, the Department of Public Art Teaching and Research, were established. In 2018, the school once again made institutional adjustments to the Academy of Arts, with two teaching units, Henan University College of Fine Arts and Henan University School of Music, and a public teaching institution, the Department of Public Art Teaching and Research, under the framework of Henan Academy of Art.

When the art major was first established, it brought together a group of well-known domestic artists and art educators, including Mr. Ding Tiegui, who was engaged in the teaching and creation of oil painting, Mr. Xie Ruixian, He Zhiyi, Ma Qiguang, Ye Yixuan, etc., and Mr. Liu Tiehua, who was engaged in printmaking teaching and creation, Engaged in arts and crafts teaching and creation of Mr. Liang Bingsun, Dong Zubin, Yu Anlan, Li Baifeng, Gao Wen and other Mr. have taught calligraphy here, at the same time, Mr. Lu Qian, Yu Anlan, Li Baifeng and other contributions to the theory of fine arts have far-reaching impact. These high-moral educators have made outstanding contributions to the development of art education in Henan. Li Boan, Ma Guoqiang, Wang Hongjian, Zhang Jiangzhou, Wang Yingsheng, Xie Bingyi, Duan Jianwei, Han Xuezhong, Li Xinhua, Zhang Wei, Xiao Hong, Li Qiang, Hua Jianguo, Li Ming, Li Jianqiang and other famous domestic artists have been taught here. After the joint efforts of several generations, the Academy of Fine Arts has become the cradle of training Henan Province and the national artistic talents, a total of more than 10,000 graduates to the community.

Henan University art education has been a long way forward, has been identified as the Ministry of Education of physical education and art teacher training base, Henan Province art experimental teaching demonstration center, the central and local finance to build an art training center experimental base. The establishment of Henan University School of Fine Arts in 2018 has opened a new chapter in our university's higher art education. The college currently has 108 on-the-job staff, including 56 professors and associate professors. More than 800 undergraduate students, more than 200 graduate students. The existing fine arts, calligraphy, painting, photography, visual communication design, environmental design, animation 7 undergraduate majors, with art, design, art theory 3 first-class master's degree authorization points, should have a master's degree in art (MFA) authorization point, 3 subject points are key disciplines in Henan Province. In 2018, it was approved by the Degree Committee of the State Council as the authorized point for a doctorate in the first-level discipline of art theory.

The Academy of Fine Arts has a building area of more than 8080 square meters of integrated teaching building and the value of nearly 10 million teaching equipment, but also has a full-featured multimedia classroom, computer classroom, studio, laboratory, art college information room. The library has a total collection of more than 80,000 books and paintings, including a collection of Ming, Qing period and modern paintings and paintings of famous works, as well as the Japanese second Xuan Society copied the Taipei Palace Museum collection.
